Why I built GardenCal

I moved 11 times in 30 years.

Every move meant learning a new yard from scratch — new soil, new weather, new seasons, new plants that thrived or failed. Just as I'd finally learn a place's rhythm — what to plant, when to prune, when to feed, what to skip — it was time to start over somewhere new.

For years I thought there had to be an easier way.

That thought stayed with me as I began using AI for something far more serious: researching new drugs and therapies for lung disease. The work pulled me deeper in — I built a home AI lab and started working with AI agents — and I realized these tools could solve everyday problems too.

Including the one I'd carried for decades: how do you know what your own yard needs, month by month, where you actually live?

So I built GardenCal. Tell it where you live and what you grow — or want to grow — and it turns that into a personalized 12-month care calendar, tuned to your plants and your growing zone.

It's the gardening helper I wish I'd had every time I started over.
